Studies on assessment of impacts of release of effluents on coastal ecology and planning for future developments in Maharashtra was planned in 2006 to be conducted by the National Institute of Oceanography, Goa through their Mumbai Regional Centre. The study was intended to look into industrial effluent discharges from the industrial areas along the coast of Maharashtra from Tarapur in North to Ratnagiri in South.
